The holidays are officially upon us. Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas isn’t far behind! If you’re not ready yet, we can help you prepare! Just concentrate on a few key spaces and your guests will feel welcome as ever this holiday season.
The Front Porch
This focal point is often the first thing your guests will see when they arrive. Why not make it as festive and welcoming as possible? Start by giving it a thorough cleaning. Clear away the leaves, dirt, cobwebs, etc. that have accumulated throughout fall (and beyond). Then you have a clean palette for your decorations! Ideally, your front porch will be a natural introduction to your decorating style. So, you prefer subtle décor, your design choices should reflect this—inside and out. If you’re a Christmas fanatic, this is also a great place to unleash your creativity. Add wreaths, snowmen, garland, twinkling lights, Christmas trees, and more! Just make sure your guests have an easy path to the front door.
Your Living Room
When it comes to this spot, you should create a cozy atmosphere that encourages your guests to get comfortable. Whether everyone gathers around the tree, the fireplace, or just each other, make sure you add little holiday touches to this space. Festive candles, enchanting figurines, evergreen garlands, and more lights will set the tone for a cheerful gathering. Don’t forget to add some plush throws and pillows to the mix! Not only will they be close by when temperatures drop, but also, they can be used to create additional seating, if need be. They don’t all need to be red and green, either. Incorporating some deeper jewel tones and some neutrals will create a more authentic color palette. Plus, you can continue to use them even after the holidays.
Now, this is where the magic happens. People naturally congregate around food, so don’t skimp on your supplies. Stock up on everything you’ll need for baking, stewing, sautéing and more. You should also take a nice, long look at your kitchen before your guests arrive. Many families enjoy cooking together as a holiday activity, but that requires a lot of space. While kitchen decorations are typically smaller, such as miniature trees, themed centerpieces, and the good dinnerware/napkins, they still take away from some of your workable space. At this point, we have just enough time to start a remodeling project that will truly transform this important room. Whether it’s an open-concept design change or a simple update, this step will truly wow all your holiday guests!
While you don’t have to go overboard here, you can still show your holiday spirit in the bathroom! Just try swapping out some of your basic supplies with cheerful Christmas versions. These little details—like soap, hand towels, and more—will make a big difference to your guests. If you really want this space to stand out, you can even swap out your shower curtain and fill the space with the smell of festive potpourri. Of course, if you want to add a bathroom or redo your current guest bath before the holiday gatherings begin, we can help you with that, too!
